SR7739986887 Tech line - it was verified with Techline that both the high limit thermostat and the heater were shorted to ground, allowing the unit to runaway heat. This burned the heating element which causes smoking.. tech lines recommendation was to replace the parts. However, the Safety Team made the call to replace the unit.
